(ENGLISH) Hi again... Not so easy to keep this blog up to date, if you're busy with a hundred things more. Besides all the projects in my head (I have so many ideas for new crochet patterns I want to design but where o where is the time...) I finally finished my African Flower Bear. There is a story to go with this...
Over a year ago I started this beautiful bear, one of my all time favorites! I had just bought a whole bunch of cotton in a little yarn shop in Banja Luka, Bosnia, where I was visiting my family (my mother lived here before she moved to the Netherlands in the name of love, about 40 years ago). The cotton was thicker than the wool used in the pattern, but I had enough for the bear. I thought. But when I had finished his head and his body, the cotton was finished too... Oops. Ofcourse I searched like crazy on the internet, but no, this brand (St. George) was nowhere to be found online. I asked my aunt in Bosnia to go to the little yarn shop for me, so she could send me the cotton, but they ran out of the colors I needed (yes, because I had bought them all...). Ordering was no option... I just had to go look for a similar kind of cotton, in similar colors. Well, that wasn't easy at all. The yarn monsters I ordered didn't come close. Meanwhile that poor bear was just lying in my closet. But I really wanted to finish the bear (it was so sad, such a little head lying 'loose'), so I became less precise, and bought different kinds of yarn in colors that somehow matched. Some of these yarns almost attacked my hook, what a horror yarns to crochet with, so bear was - once again - being put off...
Until I saw the newest pattern of the same designer: a hippo. It was love at first sight and I wanted to start immediately. But a little voice in my head was saying: finish the bear first! So I put myself together and finished the bear. And despite the different kinds of yarns and colors (if you look closely you'll see it on the picture) I am very happy with the results :-) And I am happy I can start with this lovely hippo too (when I find the time, that is...).
